We believe that no student should have to choose between food and learning. Compared with students who have enough to eat, students who are food insecure experience significantly higher rates of depression and anxiety. They also have lower grade-point averages and are likelier to withdraw from the university before earning their degrees.
The goal of the Open Paws Pantry at Augusta University is to serve as emergency food relief for AU students experiencing food insecurity. For the cost of your morning latte or a subscription to Spotify or Apple Music, you could help students in need. $10.00 represents the cost of one nutritious meal, and $70.00 can feed a student one meal a day for a week! If you are so inclined, you can give $210.00 to feed a student three meals a day for a week.
During the 2024 Fall term, 173 students visited the pantry 365 times. For the 2025 Spring term so far, 121 students have utilized the pantry 211 times.
Your support of the Open Paws Pantry will ensure that food-insecure students have the resources to win against hunger. New additions of personal hygiene items like toothpaste, bodywash and deodorant, as well as household items, such as toilet paper and laundry detergent make Open Paws Pantry the one stop shop for all the supplies students need so they can focus on their education, and succeed in college, despite the odds.
