On September 27, 2024, Hurricane Helene tore through the CSRA and up into Western North Carolina leaving in its wake a swatch of destruction that will likely be visible for years to come.
With sustained winds of at least 80 mph and gusts reaching 100 mph in some areas, approximately 75% of the tree canopy in the CSRA was lost, including over 400 trees across Augusta Universityβs campuses.
The Summerville Campus—one of the most historic landscapes in the University System of Georgia—bore the heaviest damage. In a single night, the campus lost approximately 350 trees, many of them decades old.
Your gift to the AU Tree Restoration Project will assist in reforesting the historic Summerville campus, as well as other areas on the Health Science and Riverfront campuses that were devastated by this tragic event.
