Expanding Access to Care Through Physical Therapy
The Physical Therapy Pro Bono Services Fund supports Augusta University's commitment to providing high-quality physical therapy services for uninsured and underinsured individuals while enhancing the clinical education of Doctor of Physical Therapy students.
More Information:
For more than 15 years, Augusta University's College of Allied Health Sciences has partnered with the community to provide free physical therapy services for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. Through this longstanding pro bono clinic, faculty and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students work together to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals who might otherwise lack access to rehabilitation services.
The clinic serves a dual purpose: improving the health and well-being of vulnerable members of the Central Savannah River Area while providing valuable hands-on learning opportunities for future physical therapists. Under the guidance of experienced faculty, students develop their clinical skills by evaluating and treating patients with a variety of movement, mobility, and functional challenges. This real-world experience helps prepare graduates to become skilled and compassionate practitioners dedicated to improving quality of life through movement.
In addition to direct patient care, the clinic provides equipment and resources at no cost to patients. These tools help relieve pain, improve posture, strengthen muscles and joints, support mobility, and encourage physical activity for overall health and wellness. For many patients, access to these resources can make a meaningful difference in achieving their treatment goals and maintaining independence.
To ensure the clinic can continue meeting the needs of its patients, donations support the replacement of worn or broken equipment and the purchase of essential items used in physical therapy interventions. Gifts may also help provide patient-specific equipment and assistive devices that directly support clinical care. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps the clinic continue improving lives while preparing the next generation of physical therapists to serve their communities.
Fund Goal:
Contributions to the Physical Therapy Pro Bono Services Fund help provide essential equipment, supplies, and patient care resources that improve mobility, reduce pain, and promote independence. Through the generosity of donors, the clinic can continue making a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of our community, one patient at a time.
