The Washington's Initiative is a partnership between Augusta University and The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History to honor the lives and achievements of Drs. Justine and Isaiah "Ike" Washington. The Initiative consists of four continuing parts:
- Legacy quilts capturing their dedication to education
- Commemorative event to include the community
- Annual Scholarship to Augusta University under their name
The Ike and Justine Washington Scholarship was established in honor of the Washingtons' lifetime dedication to community engagement, education, and to our city and state. The scholarship will be given each year to an outstanding incoming freshman at Augusta University from Richmond, Columbia, and/or Burke counties.
